Dishwasher
Smelly dishwasher
To freshen up a smelly dishwasher, try these quick steps:
- Clean the Filter: Wash the filter to remove trapped food particles that cause odours .
- Check the Drain: Look for any clogs or debris that might be causing the smell.
- Check for Standing Water: Ensure there’s no water left in the bottom, as this can create odors.
- Use a Dishwasher Cleaner: For a deep clean, consider using a commercial cleaner.
- Clean Regularly: Regular maintenance will help prevent odours from returning.
Wobbly basket
Stuck or missing wheels make loading or unloading a dishwasher a real pain.
Inspect the Wheels: Check if the wheels on the basket are damaged or loose. Replace them if needed.
Tighten Loose Clips or Bolts: If the basket is secured with clips or bolts, make sure they are tight. Tighten any that are loose.
Replace Broken Clips: If any clips are broken, you can buy replacements and fit them into place.
Check the Tracks: Ensure the tracks or rails the basket slides on are clean and not bent.
Consider a Replacement: If the basket is badly damaged or rusted, it may be more practical to replace it entirely.
Not cleaning properly
- Unclog the spray arms: The spray arms are the long, flat plastic parts that rotate and spray water to clean the dishes.
- Check for clogs or damage: If the dishwasher isn’t cleaning properly, inspect the spray arms for blockages or wear.
- Quick fix: Spray arms can be easily unclipped for cleaning or replaced with new ones.
Not draining
Drain pump function: The drain pump is responsible for pumping out dirty water from the dishwasher after each wash cycle. Without proper drainage, your dishwasher may not clean effectively, and water can begin to pool inside.
Common blockages: Over time, the drain pump can become clogged with debris such as broken glass, crockery pieces, food particles, or even hair. These blockages can stop the pump from working properly, leading to poor drainage and dirty dishes.
Location of the pump: The drain pump is typically located at the bottom of the dishwasher, usually beneath the bottom spray arm. It’s usually easy to access, but may require removing certain parts.
Dishwasher leaking
Door Gasket: Check the rubber seal around the door for cracks or wear. A damaged gasket can cause water to leak during a cycle. Replace if needed.
Spray Arms: Inspect the spray arms for cracks or clogs. Damaged spray arms can cause water to spray in the wrong direction, leading to leaks.
Drain Hose: Examine the drain hose for cracks, loose connections, or blockages. A damaged hose can cause leaks during draining.
Detergent: Using too much detergent or the wrong type can create excess suds, which may spill over and cause leaks. Follow the manufacturer’s recommendations for detergent use.
Broken dispenser
Overuse of Detergent: If the dispenser doesn’t close properly, detergent may spill out prematurely, causing over-sudsing or waste.
Incomplete Cleaning: A faulty dispenser may prevent detergent from being released properly, resulting in poorly cleaned dishes.
Soap Residue: Detergent left in the dispenser can lead to soap residue on your dishes or inside the dishwasher.
